strange to remember it now ... but i am not a damsel in distress - it's good to listen to old music sometimes

last night ... i was at starshine (great show btw you should check it out if you haven't, every thursday around 10:30 at Rififi's) and this guy sitting next to me kept ... sighing and moaning and then pulled out a camera and started shooting the girls ... and all the anger that has been accumulating in me over the previous week, all that rage over the fucked upness of this world and all that sadness over what humans turn out to be once they grow up ... all that just came to surface

and if i ever felt a sort of righteous rage in my life it would have been last night, like that guy summed it up for me - sexism and racism and homphobia and exploitation and violence and I looked on stage and Pookie was shaking her sexy ass on stage and while I tend to stay away from sisterhood rhetoric I really felt like this guy was violating a sister, a fellow artist, a woman and I felt like we were all collectively raped because I could see the video edited to fit the purpose posted on line for masses of assholes to jerk of, assholes who were never given permission, who never bother to ask for permission

i didn't slam the guy over the head with my 20lb of books as i desired since even in rage i can refrain from violence, i just reported him and he was dealt with, Pop Pistol was so powerfully amazing confiscating guys camera (proud of you girl) ...

La Maison des vilains at HyperGender

Tonight, Saturday, at 10pm HyperGender attacks yet another fun topic - villains! Some are imaginary cartoon villains like Cruella De Vil and Maleficent (presented by Pandora and Jz Bich), some come from comic books like Typhoid Mary and Joker (presented by Agent N and Lady Coco Larue), some are literary villains like Lolita (presented by Jezebel Express), others are historical characters like Bloody Queen Bathory (presented by Belle M. Baudelaire), or those often accused of villainy like clowns (presented by Dottie Lux), and finally some are just plain villainous (presented by Deity). All this is concluded with a video by Anti Social.

When: Saturday, November 3, 10pm
Where: WOW Cafe Theatre, 59-61 East 4th
How much: $10/$5 for burlesque performers

This is a special birthday show for JZ Bich, Lady Coco Larue and few others and a farewell show for Agent N who is moving out of NY only hours after the show.

For more see www.hypergender.com

Ask Cruella how she's feeling and she'll reply with extravagant glee, "Miserable, darling, as usual. Perfectly wretched." And that's the way she likes it. Fur coats are her only love in life. She adores fur, "absolutely lives for it," and the fur she lives for today is the spotted variety -- dalmatian, that is. Roger and Anita's dalmatians. "Such perfectly beautiful coats," she purrs as she plots, thinking how much better those spots would look on her. Who cares if Pongo and Perdita's tiny pups are rather attached to that fur -- or that they're not for sale at any price? She'll do whatever she has to do to get those beasts and their coveted coats. And once in her evil hands, those puppies must never leave "Hell Hall" alive. Cruella may live for fur -- but the pups, well, she doesn't give much thought to them.

more on Cruella go to link

HyperGender celebrates JZ's, Lady Coco Lareau's birthday and few other birthdays, wishes safe trip to Agent N and more ... So come have some cake, drink champagne and see Pandora strip Cruella for you!

It is the sexiest villainy ever seen.

beauty, pain and how the world is fucked up

I planned to write this blog about how fabulous this weekend was. You know about great performances at HyperGender, or how I enjoyed Beebo Brinker Chronicles at NYTW, or fantastic show at Kitty Nights last night and how I really liked the new act by Amber Alert and how I am so excited to see her as a part of December HypeGender.

I wanted to share my excitement about Glenn's visit to NY and how much I feel lucky to be surrounded by people I love. I wanted to tell you how this world can be so beautiful.

I truly cherish these moments of beauty I am given and I want to say I am so grateful to those who made these past few days possible to survive.

However, I have seen/read so much evil and negativity in the past few days that I cannot in my right mind celebrate the beauty today.

I guess this insanity started on Thursday...

On Thursday, I had the worst migraine day, sat in WS meeting realizing that WS have nothing to do with being enlightened. Luckily, a friend lives a bit above CCNY so I could rest for a minute before having to engage the MTA. I really thought I was going to pass out in the street, or on the train.

On Friday I received an email about gay bashing that ended up in a murder of Satender Singh this summer. A group of men attacked Singh and his family at a picnic and killed him. All this in front of numerous witnesses. article

On Saturday, I found out that a gay venue in Belgrade proudly claims no Roma and some trans people are allowed in their club. They use this as an advertisement! bulletin screen shot Since then the manager has posted a disclaimer saying they do not discriminate ... but then where did the idea to include that in the bulletin come from?

On Sunday, I had the pleasure to learn that one can preach love among all humans yet be abusive when it comes to individuals. I don't want to go into this story any deeper because I don't want to continue with the circle of negativity that was started that day.

Today, after my "taking forever to get there" trip to the tip of Manhattan and various annoying people on the M60 who decided to push, shove and step on everyone around them I decided to check my email... just to find out that a dear friend was gay bashed a few days ago in Zagreb! Then I read a story about a woman who was impaled in 1993, during the wars in the Balkans. Then I read off handed comments how "shit happens" in the war.

So, now, should I just pretend like the world is a great place to live, go do my laundry, watch Heroes, and enjoy my oh so sheltered lower middle class life or is there something I, all of us, can do to make this world better, safer for everyone? I mean, really, can anything be done ... because I feel sick, sick of patience, of silence, of the world in which things like this happen. And we all know they happen and they are happening right now to someone, somewhere.

Joseph Goebbels had some suggestions on propaganda. It seems like many have learned from him without giving him the credit. So, I am picking a few of these suggestions to share ... ask yourself (wherever you are) ... is your government following some or all of them ...

"Intellectual activity is a danger to the building of character"

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

"Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play."

and to add...
"In politics stupidity is not a handicap." - Napoleon
"Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber." - Plato

and the all time favorite advice:

"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it" - Hitler

***Death to fascism, freedom to people***

integrity

integrity
from dictionary.com:
in·teg·ri·ty /ɪnˈtɛgrɪti/
–noun
1. adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.
2. the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished: to preserve the integrity of the empire.
3. a sound, unimpaired, or perfect condition: the integrity of a ship's hull.
[Origin: 1400–50; late ME integrite < L integritās. See integer, -ity]

—Synonyms 1. rectitude, probity, virtue. See honor.
—Antonyms 1. dishonesty.

I have been thinking a lot about integrity lately. Artistic integrity for example. With all this chaos of people stealing acts what it boils down to is a sense of integrity. Can one value her/his own work if it's stolen? Does one doubt her/his own ideas so much if she will steal someone else's?

Academic integrity? There was a case of a professor stealing someone else's work. People making up date to fit their own hypothesis...

Personal? Betraying a friend, lying behind their backs...

Emotional? Selling oneself shot by allowing another to manipulate her/his feelings? Being satisfied with bread crumbs while ruining someone's life...

I think it all boils down to basic insecurities. If a person doesn't think she/he is worth the respect, if she/he doesn't think she can come up with a good idea, if she/he thinks nobody will ever love her/him .. she will resort to stealing.

But maybe there is more to it? Maybe some people simply don't have integrity. Maybe the idea of success is so important to them that they are willing to sell themselves for it. Maybe it is Faustian dilemma one is faced with and perhaps it is a Faustian choice she/he makes. Give me now and who cares about the future ... and when future comes and devil knocks on the door it will be too late to repent. I am more with Marlowe than Goethe on this one - redemption is impossible if one waits too long to ask for it.

PS No, I haven't gone all religious darlings -- just using a metaphor.
